Altercation as Pier approaches sees man sustaining severe head injury

A MAN sustained serious head injuries following an altercation near Bournemouth Pier.

The 19-year-old victim was reportedly shot in the incident, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head.

The man, from Fareham, was taken to hospital with a serious head injury and his condition is described as stable.

Officers received reports of the altercation involving a man and a group of men at Pier Approach at around 7 p.m. on Saturday June 12.

Dorset Police said a 17-year-old boy from Blandford had been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and was assisting officers with their investigations.

The detectives are calling for witnesses and anyone with cell phone images to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Ian Allen of Bournemouth CID said: ‘From our initial investigations we know there were a number of people on the beach at that time and some appeared to be recording the incident on their cell phones.

“I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident, or captured it on their cell phone, to contact Dorset Police.”
