They were contagious during their labor, according to NSW Health.
“A staff member who works in the warehouse at the IKEA distribution center, Marsden Park is now a confirmed case of coronavirus,” read a letter from staff seen by 7NEWS.com.au.
“The staff member was contagious at work during the morning shift on July 6, 7 and 8, 2020.”
A spokesperson for IKEA Australia confirmed the case to 7NEWS.com.au and said the warehouse was not forced to close.
“We have been informed that a colleague who works at IKEA Australia DC / CDC located in Marsden Park, tested positive for COVID-19 on July 13, 2020,” the spokesperson said.
“They last worked at DC / CDC on Wednesday July 8th. The source of their infection was not an IKEA unit. “
IKEA was in constant communication with the NSW health department and the employee’s colleagues should not be forced to self-isolate, the spokesperson said.
The infection was reported to the distribution center, not to be confused with the nearby IKEA store.
IKEA’s website says several changes have been made to ensure customers can shop safely throughout the pandemic.
They put more emphasis on personal hygiene and cleaning skills.
