Dorset rail strike: Traffic updates as train lines are severely restricted and travel pushed to roads

Rail strikes have started and Dorset is expected to be badly hit by the county’s road closures. Dorset services affected include Great Western between Weymouth and Castle Cary, as well as South Western between Weymouth and Southampton Central, or via Sherborne.

This means that services from the following stations will be impacted so you should check before travelling: Weymouth, Upwey, Dorchester West, Maiden Newton, Chetnole, Yetminster, Thornford, Dorchester South, Moreton, Wool, Corfe Castle, Holton Heath, Hamworthy , Poole, Parkstone, Branksome, Bournemouth, Pokesdown, Christchurch, Hinton Admiral (Hants), Sherborne, Templecombe and Gillingham.

Heavy traffic on our major routes is expected as no replacement bus service is available. Sunday services will also increase vehicle volumes on the days between strikes. Train staff walkouts take place on June 21, 23 and 25.
