LBH Jakarta to take legal action against Jokowi for online loan

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH Jakarta) was planning to file a lawsuit in the Jakarta Central District Court against President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, Ministry of Communication and Information, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and the House of Representatives (DPR).

” It’s planned [to be filed] next week. The trial documents are ready, but we have not yet set a date, ”institute lawyer Jeanny Sari Sirait told Tempo today, October 26.

LBH considered several factors for the lawsuit, including the government’s lack of response to various online lending cases, the lack of online lending regulations in terms of interest, administrative fees, registration and protection of personal data.

According to Jeanny, LBH has been defending victims of illegal online loans for three years and has been researching policy briefs. LBH is also opening a public complaints service post.

LBH urges the government to enact strict regulations for online lending activities. “But whenever it is requested, the authorities always answer that it is still in the regulatory process,” she added.

From 2018 to early 2021, LBH Jakarta received 5,000 complaints related to loan issues allegedly related to the law and human rights violations.

A spokesperson for the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Sekar Putih Djarot has not yet responded to Tempo’s appeal regarding the citizen trial. President Jokowi’s special attache for legal affairs Dini Shanti Purwono said his side was still awaiting trial. “As this is only a plan, we are waiting for a copy of the trial document to give an answer,” she said.
