Spears Business Faculty, staff honored for their teaching, research and exceptional service

Several faculty and staff at Oklahoma State University’s Spears School of Business have been recognized by Dean Ken Eastman for their outstanding teaching, research and service during the 2020-21 academic year at the annual faculty and staff meeting on August 13.

Silvio Ceschini, Mark Cochran and Willie Tao with the Food Service team of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management received the award Commitment with Practice Award, granted for new or extended engagement activities with practice (eg, companies, business people, recruiters, etc.).

Andy Luse, Associate Professor, Department of Management Sciences and Information Systems, received the award Innovation Prize in Pedagogy, presented to a full-time teacher who applies a new pedagogy or a pedagogy already used in a new way.

For the Power of personal rewards, they were given to: Cochran, Professor of Professional Practice and Executive Chef, School of Hotel and Tourism Management; Ceschini, teacher and dining room manager, School of Hotel and Tourism Management; and Jennifer Coonce, Assistant Professor of Professional Practice, Department of Management. The award recognizes those who best exemplify the Spears Business brand statement, The power of the staff, thanks to their attention and care for students, faculty and external constituents.

The best paper prizes went to Sherry Fu, Lindsey Greco, Anna Lennard and Nikos Dimotakis, Department of Management, and Justin Lawrence, Assistant Professor, School of Marketing and International Business. The prize is awarded to the faculty which has the best paper accepted or published during the academic year. The article by Fu, Greco, Lennard and Dimotakis, “Anxiety Responses to the Unfolding COVID-19 Crisis: Patterns of Change in the Experience of Prolonged Exposure to Stressors”, has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Applied Psychology. Lawrence’s article, “Salesperson Dual Agency in Price Negotiations,” published in the
Marketing Review.

The Online education price had two categories, undergraduate and graduate. Undergraduate, Maribeth Kuzmeski, Assistant Professor of Professional Practice, School of Marketing and International Business, was honored. At the end of the cycle, Kinda Wilson, trainer, School of Marketing and International Business, was recognized. The award is presented to a faculty member who has developed an outstanding online course, with high quality teaching, student experiences, and support.

Raj Basu, Associate Professor, Department of Management, obtained the Richard W. Poole Award for Excellence in Faculty Outreach. The award recognizes the contributions made by faculty as part of Spears Business’s outreach mission. Over the past three years, he has presented 49 credit-free programs to over 1,800 participants. His areas of expertise range from team building and conflict resolution to virtual employee leadership, coaching and mentoring.

Outstanding staff award went to Stacia Enns, Administrative Support Specialist II, Department of Management, and Shannon Ramsey, Assistant Director of Prospective Students, Chesapeake Energy Business Student Success Center.

Enns, a four-and-a-half-year Spears Business employee, is the recipient in the classified employee category. “Stacia solves problems before they arise, coordinates schedules, provides timely and important communications and manages to do everything with a humble spirit,” wrote one of her candidates.

Ramsey, who has worked at the Chesapeake Energy Business Student Success Center since 2014, was in the administrative and professional category. “Shannon is the embodiment of our Power of Personal motto when it comes to connecting with others and making them feel that Spears Business could truly be their home,” said an appointment.

The Richard W. Poole Research Excellence Award has been presented to: Frederico Aime, Dimotakis, Greco and Lawrence.

“The pandemic has forced us to change the educational experience we offer, but our staff and faculty have stepped up dramatically to ensure that we can still fulfill our mission,” Eastman said. “We are very proud of them and grateful to have been able to recognize some of them for their exemplary efforts. ”
