A TRIP to the pub is considered an essential part of British culture and as a nation of dog lovers it is always best for pet owners to be able to take their furry friend with them.

Of course not all pubs allow pets, but there are plenty of drinkers across Dorset opening their arms to dogs and here is a list of a few you can find in the county.

Risaro in the arms of Coventry, Corfe Mullen

This riverside restaurant and bar in Corfe Mullen claims to be ‘super dog friendly’. Dogs can play in the water while their human companions have a drink on the patio. A variety of beers are offered, including local beers, wine and soft drinks. Those in the mood to eat can choose from a variety of dishes, including smoked meats such as smoked brisket for 12 hours and smoked ribs for five hours.

The Black Dog Inn, Broadmayne

Near Dorchester, the Black Dog Inn caters to doggies with a staff supposed to make a fuss to all four-legged friends. Dogs are allowed in the bar but not in the restaurant and preferably kept on a leash. As with most pubs and bars on this list, the place also offers a variety of food and drink for humans.

This dog friendly pub offers its own ice cream for all pets. They also serve food and drink to their owners. Furry friends are welcome at the bar and in the garden.

Fisherman’s Den, Christchurch

In Christchurch, at Fisherman’s Haunt, four-legged friends are welcome and are offered a cookie at the entrance. The venue serves a variety of dishes, including alternatives to typical pub food.

The Fox Inn, Antsy

In the heart of Dorset, the Fox Inn accepts dogs outside and at the bar. The pub prefers dogs on a leash, but the boozer has treats for them that are readily available. A selection of wines, beers and food is available.

The Three Tuns, Bransgore

Located in Bransgore, The Three Tuns opens its doors to four-legged companions with dog treats provided and plenty of human food is also available. Pets are welcome in the bar, garden and beer terrace.

One of Poole Wharf’s iconic pubs, The Jolly Sailor accepts dogs in its bar. The boozer offers a variety of drinks and plenty of food, including pub classics.
