BCP COUNCIL has installed even more seaside layouts by unveiling its new electric barbecues along Bournemouth and Poole seafront.

Thirty free barbecues are to be set up at locations along the waterfront, including Fisherman’s Walk, Branksome China and near Bournemouth Pier.

It is hoped that stationary electric barbecues will help reduce the use of disposable alternatives that are often left on the beach, impacting the environment and posing a risk when left below the surface of the sand.

PCO Board Chief Cllr Drew Mellor said, “We want to provide more amenities on the beach so that residents and visitors to the area can safely enjoy the beach.

“It shouldn’t just be the beach hut owners who can have barbecues on the promenade next to the beach, these are open to everyone.

“We’ve seen them work very well in Australia and we think it’s a real investment for the city.

Electric barbecues are installed as part of the BCP Council’s summer preparation plans, which aim to help visitors spend time by the sea.

Once the installation is complete, they will be available for use on a first come, first served basis.

Six barbecues are planned to be installed on a trial basis over the next two weeks, at Fisherman’s Walk and Branksome China, followed by four barbecues at Bournemouth, just east of Bournemouth Pier.

Cllr Mellor added, “People can swing, turn it on, cook it all in 20 minutes and then it will automatically turn off.

“We ask people to clean them afterwards, but our waterfront agents will also check them as part of their patrols.

“We obviously hope they won’t be vandalized, but to minimize this, CCTV is on duty at these locations and we will have council officers, security officers and waterfront officers patrolling these areas. ”

While the council hopes the facilities will be well utilized in the summer, people will be able to use the barbecues year round.

Bournemouth Echo:

The new barbecues will be made of corrosion-resistant, low-maintenance stainless steel and will automatically turn on and off in a pre-programmed fashion to ensure safety and energy efficiency.

Disposable barbecues are always allowed between 6 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on the beach. However, people are urged to dispose of it in a safe and responsible manner.

Portfolio holder for Tourism, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Mohan Iyengar said, “Collective barbecues have worked successfully in other resorts and we are happy to present them here.

“It’s a free alternative to disposable barbecues.

“As long as they are taken care of, we will reduce waste, injury, water pollution and the risk of fires on the beach – helping everyone enjoy a safer and more enjoyable stay. relaxing in our resort. ”
