Homes For Sale: The Most Popular Coastal Areas For Property Sales In The Last Year

The number of vacation rental mortgages has doubled since August 2020, according to the Haysto mortgage platform. In addition, the site found that a record number of UK holiday bookings had taken place after the government revealed its roadmap out of closure earlier this year. Haysto looked at the latest government data to find out which coastal areas had the most and the least real estate purchases in 2020.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole were another close contender last year.

Bournemouth was recently named the UK’s most ‘family destination’, with five of its beaches winning the Blue Flag award.

Nationally, the region came in fourth place with 129.5 properties sold per capita.

Blackpool (129.5), East Riding of Yorkshire (126.5) and Devon (124.9) came in third, fourth and fifth in terms of the number of property sales per capita.

Wales also saw the strongest annual house price growth last year among the four countries.

Bath and North East Somerset is the second lowest area for property sales, with just 96.1 per capita.

Carmarthenshire, Brighton and Hove and Gwynedd came in third, fourth and fifth.

Paul Coss, Co-Founder and Specialty Mortgage Broker at Haysto, said: “With vacation rental mortgage products now at a pre-COVID-19 level and with an ever-growing interest in UK vacations, it is not surprising to see potential buyers looking at the coastal areas of the country.

“COVID-19 has made people more aware of what they are missing and they need to rethink their priorities.

“With the prospect of remote working continuing, it has allowed consumers to leave the big cities to settle in more rural and idyllic places.”
