Man dies after being punched in the head at social club

A man has died after a single punch to the head at a social club near Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) say Paul Ologbose, 57, was allegedly struck once in the head following an altercation at a venue on Kensington Drive in Leigh shortly before 1.55am on Sunday.

A man in his 40s was taken into custody by officers at the scene, and he has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Mr Ologbose was taken to hospital with a serious head injury but died on Sunday afternoon.

His family are aware and are receiving expert support from officers, GMP said.

Detectives speak to those who were at the social club and examine CCTV in the area.

GMP Wigan District Detective Superintendent Rebecca Boyce urged anyone with information about the attack to contact police.

She said: ‘A man has horribly lost his life after sustaining a serious head injury which we believe was caused by a punch during an altercation at a party.

“This is a shocking and distressing time for Paul’s family and we will do everything we can to support them throughout our ongoing investigation.

“We have a suspect in custody who is being questioned in relation to Paul’s death, but it is essential that we understand the full circumstances of this horrific incident, and so I implore anyone with information to do what they can. ‘it takes and get in touch.’
