Storm warning issued for BCP today

A THUNDERSTORM could bring ‘lightning and hail’ to Dorset today, the Met Office has warned.

The yellow alert, which includes Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, will be in effect between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Friday July 22.

The Met Office says a few places could see heavy showers and slow-moving thunderstorms.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “While some areas will remain dry and slow moving, severe thunderstorms are likely to develop mid to late morning, likely peaking in the afternoon and early evening before moving in. break it down later.

“Where thunderstorms occur, 20-25mm of rain is possible in less than an hour, and 40-50mm can fall in 2-3 hours. Frequent hail and lightning are potential additional hazards.

As for what to expect, the Met Office says:

  • Spray and flash flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
  • In the event of flooding or lightning, there is a risk of delays and cancellations of train and bus services.
  • There is a low risk of power outages occurring and other services to some homes and businesses being lost.

Currently, the Met Office forecast for tomorrow suggests heavy rain between 9am and 11am.
