Dorchester Housing Association has a £60,000 deal with Russian gas company Gazprom

A housing association in Dorchester has been named as having a fuel contract worth tens of thousands of pounds with Russian gas company Gazprom.

Housing association Magna Housing Ltd, based in Oak House, Poundbury Road, has a one-year contract with the Russian company worth £63,818. The contract ends this month.

The information was contained on the government procurement website. He revealed this was Magna’s second time using Gazprom, and previously had a smaller contract worth £10,455 with Gazprom Energy which ended on March 31, 2019.

Magna was contacted by email on Friday morning (March 4) and again on Monday (March 7) to ask if she would continue her involvement with Russian state-owned Gazprom Energy after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but the housing association has yet to respond. The company’s phone number only took emergency calls from housing clients.

The two Magma contracts listed on the government site were awarded under the framework agreement Aspire Housing which acts as a wholesale buyer for a number of customers for gas and electricity.

The government website also lists the ASpiration Academic Trust, which handles accounts for some schools in the county, as also having a contract with Gazprom. However, no details were given as to whether or not there is a link to Dorset schools.

The Dorset Pension Fund, which meets on Thursday this week, had previously investigated the withdrawal of fossil fuel companies in which its portfolio is invested for reasons related to climate change. A verbal report should be given to members at the meeting.
