Covid: Upton Junior School students and staff isolate

THIRTY pupils at a Dorset primary school are in isolation after a confirmed case of Covid.

Thirty students and “some staff” at Upton Junior School in Poole are all in isolation after a case of Covid-19 is confirmed.

A spokesperson for the school said: “We had a case of coronavirus within the school, so we have a whole isolated class which has about 30 students. There are also staff who isolate.”

As the Echo reported, around 100 students at Queen Elizabeth School in Wimborne are in isolation after five grade 9 students tested positive for the coronavirus.

Sam Crowe, director of public health for Dorset and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole councils, said: ‘We are aware that a number of schools in Dorset have received confirmed cases of Covid-19. These schools work closely with Public Health Dorset, Dorset Council and Public Health England South West to ensure that all necessary measures are followed.

“All close contacts of confirmed cases have been notified and are to self-isolate for 10 days. Contacts of confirmed cases should be tested if they develop symptoms. 10 days.”
