TOWNSHIP OF DORSET – Residents of the area secured a front row seat on Thursday evening as scenes from a Netflix film unfolded before their eyes in ‘downtown’ Dorset.

“They keep yelling ‘No photos’,” said Dorset Township Fire Chief Mark Drda.

He said the directors of the film asked firefighters to divert from “downtown” if a fire call occurs if possible.

Route 193 was blocked from the south and north, and the Footville-Richmond road into the village was blocked by a cruiser from the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department. A flashing light warned people of road closures during filming.

“Wheat Germ” is filmed in various locations in Northeast Ohio, including Dorset, near a former gas station, and at Pine Lake in Sheffield Township.

The film is based on the novel “White Noise” written by Don DeLillo, according to entertainment site Project Casting. It also says the film centers on a train wreck that causes a gas leak that forces the city to be evacuated, the website says.

A business along Route 167 near the intersection of Route 193 was used as a gathering place Thursday night with many large transit vehicles transporting people to and from the site while being lit by large portable lights.

Two even larger portable lights were visible above the intersection of Route 193 and Route 167.

Project Casting says the film is also scheduled to shoot in Cleveland on October 26 or 28.

The film stars Greta Gerwig, Noah Baumbach and Adam Driver, according to Project Casting. The website announced a variety of parts for extras at the start of the film’s stages with details regarding roles and salaries.
