This distinction rewards accommodation establishments which surpass their category and offer exceptional quality within the framework of their number of stars.
Rewards help guests find special places where hosts go the extra mile, regardless of the size, style or star rating of the accommodation.
The prestigious award comes after the 21-room hotel completed a renovation in early 2019 following the acquisition of the property by 40-year-old hotelier, international entrepreneur Peter de Savary.
Mr Savary grew up in Dorset and has a special affection for Sherborne, so he jumped at the opportunity to acquire the property in February 2018.
He said: “The Visit England Awards are extremely prestigious and appreciated by hotels which receive the ultimate honor.
“Eastbury at Sherborne, in glorious Dorset countryside, is honored to have received the Gold Prize with a 93% mark this year.
“We are very grateful to receive this recognition and I have every confidence that our wonderful staff will continue to maintain the exemplary standards that our clients fully appreciate.
“I hope a lot of people will choose to have a wonderful holiday in England rather than travel abroad – it makes sense.
“I am delighted to congratulate our exemplary Eastbury team and say a big thank you to our guests and of course to Visit England.”
