Ferndown crash: man fights for his life after truck collision

A 90-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after being involved in a truck accident in Ferndown.

Dorset Police received a report at 5:33 p.m. on Tuesday 5 October, of a collision involving a white arctic truck and a pedestrian on Ringwood Road, near The White Heather pub.

Anyone with relevant dashcam footage is welcome to come forward.

A police spokesperson said: ‘The pedestrian – a 90-year-old man – was seriously injured and was taken to Southampton General Hospital by the ambulance service for treatment. His condition is described as life threatening and his family has been notified.

“The road is closed between the junctions of New Road and Church Road while collision investigators examine the scene.”

Police Sergeant Sarah Jones of the Traffic Unit said: ‘An investigation is underway and I call on all who witnessed the collision to contact Dorset Police.

“I also urge all motorists who were traveling in the area at the relevant time to check their dashcams for any footage of the incident that might aid my investigations.

“Finally, I would like to thank motorists for their patience and understanding during road closures. These are absolutely necessary to allow the emergency services to treat the injured man and for an examination of the premises to be carried out.

Witnesses reported that a helicopter visited the scene, landing a short distance from the Tesco store.
