Girl injured near Portland Bill Lighthouse

A YOUNG girl was taken to hospital after falling 10 feet on rocks and reportedly injuring her spine.

Portland Coast Guard officers and Wyke Coast Guard rescue teams were called in to assist a child who had fallen near the Portland Bill Lighthouse at 1:16 p.m. yesterday afternoon.

The girl had fallen about 10 feet onto rocks and suffered a suspected injury to her lower spine.

Paramedics were called and the girl received pain relief before being taken to Dorset County Hospital (DCH).

A Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team spokesperson said: “Solent Coastguard told the entire team, along with our colleagues at Wyke Coastguard Rescue Team, a young woman who had fallen about 10 feet over rocks and suffered a Suspected lower spine injury, near Portland Bill Lighthouse.

“Upon arrival, the young woman was assessed by the team and received treatment until the arrival of paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWAST).

“Pain relief was given and the victim was carefully placed on the back panel of the ambulance, before being picked up the short distance to the back of the waiting ambulance.

“She was then transferred to DCH for a full assessment. With the injured person now being taken care of by SWAST, the teams returned to their risk surveillance patrols.

“We wish our injured person a speedy recovery.”
