Undefeated Merley defeats Hamworthy Rec in Dorset Premier

[ad_1]

MERLEY Cobham Sports retained their perfect start with a 5-0 victory over previously undefeated Hamworthy Recreation in the Dorset Premier League.

Cobham broke the blocks at Magna Road, scoring twice in the first four minutes thanks to Lee Wilkins and Josh Buck.

Rec was stunned by Merley pushing forward to extend his lead just after the quarter-hour, with Buck fouled in the penalty area.

Up stepped up Matt Groves, making no mistakes on the spot.

Hamworthy responded well to the last setback, finally applying some pressure. Johnny Webb was unlucky enough not to find the net with his spectacular aerial kick superbly saved by Andy Knights. The Knights then turned down Jack Satterley, to ensure Merley remained in the lead 3-0 at the break. The game was finally put to bed around the hour mark, with Nathan Walker returning home from a corner of Groves.

Steve Gilbert wrapped up the win in the dying minutes.

Elsewhere in the division, Swanage Town & Herston were beaten 3-1 at Balti Sports, despite a Charlie Brassington goal.

Corfe Castle was also beaten, losing 5-2 in the Bridport Reserves.

Both Corfe’s goals are courtesy of Aaron Merredew.

Poole Borough won 2-1 over Sherborne Town Reserves.
